How Norton works?

Norton uses four methods to detect a virus on your computer: virus definitions, suspicious behavior, emulation, and sandbox.

Virus definitions

Norton already has a database of patterns of binary code that is unique to each virus. It scans your computer regularly to search for these known viruses and flags it when they are found in your system. This method only works for known viruses.

Suspicious behavior

This method does look for binary codes of known viruses but instead looks for any suspicious activity on your computer. This also means that when you are running any new software, Norton will go through it to identify any unusual activity and flag it to you if found suspicious.

Emulate code

In this method, Norton emulates or duplicates the first part of the code of any new program/software that you use on your computer. It checks for the self-modifying code of the programs. If it finds the code, it halts the running of the software on your computer. It is possible to get false alarms in this method.

Sandbox

After the program has run in an emulated operating system, the sandbox method will analyze these executable files for any changes that may suggest any indication of a virus.

There are two ways to contact Norton for support — chat or phone. These services are available round the clock, 7 days a week. To contact Norton, you have to go to the “Support” section on their website and scroll down to select “Contact Support.” Once that is done, you will be taken to a new page where you can either choose to “Chat now” with a customer executive, or you can use phone support, which mentions the local phone numbers.
Apart from this, there is also the FAQ section where many questions are answered by the company, so you may want to check if your query is already listed and answered there.
